Thumbs up FYI: DMV-Motorcycle Registration

A little birdy told me that the state of NJ will suspend one's driver's license if they don't turn in their old/unregistered plate(s). After my bike's misfortune on 5/30/05, the only thing I was able to salvage that was in perfect condition was the plate, and I've had it in my posession since then. I never recieved a letter from the state warning about a suspension, and my license was never suspended. So I called the DMV today to confirm this info. and the rep. said that I was able to keep the plate without any cause for penalty.

As far as I know they ask for them back if the car is registered and they know it isn't insured, I have several old plate off my bikes and cars. The only time they asked for a plate back was when I changed insurance companies and the old company told the state I was no longer insured. My new insurance had to contact the state to prove that I was covered. All better now

Now that we established you don't really have to turn in your plates for NJ, whos this "little birdy?"

I have never turned any of my plates in and have never had an issue with DMV. Although I know they will (should) send you a notice prior to suspending your license and request the plates back. I had the same deal as Saxon when switching insurance companies.

I recently dropped insurance on the track bike, but its still registered... Wondering if I will get a notice at some point about that....

I would assume you will, but you might as well if it's your full time track bike.
