trailer
Has anyone ever rented one of those enclosed trailers from U-Haul to transport a bike? I'm thinking about trying it, but I'm not sure how it would work or how to tie it down properly in one of those.

Two very bad experiences with U-Haul...Will nver use them again.
1) Picked up truck in morning...fine, took all day to load truck...brakes failed about 1/2 hour into 1 /12 hour trip.
2) Bro-in-law rented trailer to carry a mid-size car with his jeep... tie downs were so pooly made that the car was moving around way too much...employee of U-Haul syas,,,"thats the way it is."
...Just use a different company

What about renting a motorcycle speciffic trailer some places have those metal 3 rail trailers to rent. I dont know if you are ok with an open trailer though.

just grab the yellow pages and find another trailer rental place, that's how I got to the track for the first year or so, they'll have motorcycle specific trailers to rent.

I rented an open trailer from uhaul to transport a couple of bikes.
The trailer was actaully very nice and sturdy. I got a 5x9 with ramp gate.
I'd do it again if I needed too.

aerodynamics are real shitty on enclosed trailers, i drove to daytona for bike week with both types on the open trailer is much better for aerodynamics and fuel mileage and stability on the road......but......the bikes will be subject to weather conditions, i have 50,000 miles on my zx12r so it has been thru all kinds of weather conditions anyway so it dosnt bother me

FYI on open trailers with the mesh ramp attached to the back...take the mesh ramp off and buy a seperat foldable ramp. I was getting real shitty mpg and after looking/pondering decided to take the mesh ramp off, went from 12mpg to 17mpg...just some food for thought.

Most places won't let you rent a trailer if you plan on using a Ford Explorer. Make sure your tow vehicle is on their approved list.
I've rented a u-haul truck to bring a bike back from CA to NJ and had no problems. I rented a truck and a car trailer when I moved to CA from NJ and didn't have any problems (towed a BMW M3).
YMMV
