Default time for new tires?

let the great tire debate continue!

what tires do you run for trackdays and how long do you wait before you change your tires? what's your indicator to change your tires?

how many trackdays (no races, no street miles) would you ride on a set of pilot powers before changing? i'm comfortable with 6 trackdays, but i've heard some say as many as 9 days! (in red group, avg pace).

i have a new set of PP ready to mount but as i look at the tires on there now, they look like they have a good amount of tread left. it's not even close to the tread wear indicators. i think i have 5 or 6 trackdays on them and about 3000-4000 street miles. i'm going to change them anyway just for piece of mind, but i feel like i'm wasting a lot of my tire.

so, how many trackdays are you guys getting out of your tires? what prompts you to change them?

I was getting like 5-6 days out of a set of SC Pros. Depends on the track too, some tear up tires more than others. I tried going with a set of DC3's, great tire but going from a SC Pro down to a DC3, it messed with my head some so I went back to SC Pros. Going forward I'll probably go 5 days on a set(if I can) and just swap em out for peace of mind.

As of right now I use 2cts... I don't think 9 days is possible. Not even close.

I had Pilot Powers on my RC51 and after 5 track days, they did not show much wear at all...I sold the bike before could wear out the tires and the grip was terrific. I think you'll like them if you try the Pilot Powers and since you have a new set, use them.
There are better tires out there, but I wouldn't worry about it until you ride a faster pace.

Sportec's will last like the DC3's. SC's will last a bit less. I'm like Omar and squeeze as much as I can out of a set. Makes us really appreciate new tires. I will make sure the front is decent or new. I can dial a slide with the rear, but the front needs to stick or else it hurts

it's kinda like calling a fat guy tiny!

actually, believe it or not, the funny thing is when I was slower I would eat through tires faster. I used to get maybe 4 days out a supercorsa before it was toasted and had that stupid ridge in it

I used to run supercorsa pros, now I use diablo supercorsas, SC1 F / SC2 R. Typically get 2 - 3 days out of a front and 1 to 1-1/2 days from a rear. I could prob eek 2 from a rear and maybe 4 from a front but by that point they are past there prime and slide a lot but still kinda fun.

so here are my tires from last year. they've seen about 6-7 trackdays in this order - pocono fusa, summit main, 1.5 days beaver (2nd day rained), 2 more days at beaver, then pocono east. and throughout the year i probably rode about 3K easy street miles. the rear has a very slight flat spot in the middle.

what do you think of them?

why do you think the front looks like that? not enough air? need better suspension? (i have stock suspension).

If you think you need new tires, then you probably do.

In the long run it will save you time ( just in case you had to change them at the track) and maybe your hide. Good choice!

My front 2ct looks like that as well, except even worse (especially the build up along the edge of where I stopped leaning). But my rear is even more smooth than yours. Not really sure why either. It's probably related to pressures cause I wasn't really checking mine during the day... it's not suspension because I got mine set up by WCW.
