they make it out like they shot mother thersa. They make it out like what they did was the worst thing ever to happen. They tried to get away with something they got caught, it happens. They arent the first team every to try to gain hp... and sure wont be the last. Everyone I know who races has some sort of illeagle modification... wether its motor modifications or a simple master cyclinder that isent OEM ...

They found an illegal substance in ONE of the Toyota cars.
Not all of them, ONE of them. This was a team issue, not a Toyota issue.

And now it's not even a team issue as Michael Waltrip has
raced his way into the Daytona 500 by finishing 9th in the first Duel 150.

Yes Michale Waltrips team cheated. They added a substance equal to jet fuel that was found in there manifold. There is always going to be teams pushing the rules to the edge and going passed the edge. But it is really unheard of for a team to try a fuel advantage. The 2 things teams never do is cheat with fuel and tires. They try all downforce cheating, and what not, but not those 2 things.

Personally I don't think Nascar is trying to sabotage Toyota. They have been racing in the crafstman truck series for a couple of years now. It brings new fans to the sport, new competition, and all in all a good thing for NASCAR.

Like it or not, im a huge nascar fan and bike racing fan. I think speed should add more bike coverage but it will never happen.

I'll be cheering for my dodge driver Elliot Sadler:

Toyota coming into the Nextel Cup is a great thing. You know what it means? It means there are more jobs in America thanks to Toyota's desire to come racing. The trucks were being built in America, hence them racing in the Craftsman Truck series. They announced a few years ago that they wanted in on the NASCAR boom and they proceeded to do it. Good for them and good for the US. NASCAR isn't trying to kick them out because the introduction of an "import" automobile is going to bring in a lot more interest world-wide... just like Montoya switching from F1 to Nascar, and Nascar running races in Mexico. Like it or not, Nascar is going to spread for a while. Personally, I stick more towards road racing, but Nascar and Indy Car are fun in their own way.

Mike, Nascar isn't your local race circuit. They take competition very seriously. That team is not the only team being punished for things. There are a few cars being docked points and missing their crew cheifs for the big race thanks to illegal weight modifications (i.e. drilling out bolts). I believe it's Everham's team, not sure all of the details because I'm not following all the news that closely, but it happens with every year, a few more teams get in trouble for playing the gray area of the rule book. They know it's wrong, but because it's not specifically written in the rule book, they try to get away with it. When they get caught or Nascar doesn't like it, they get fined or punished and they move on to the next race. They all know the consequences of being caught.

Nascar wants closer and closer competition, which is why these tiny little things are such a big deal. Nobody wants the first place guy to lap the 2nd place guy like it used to be back in the muscle car era.

I've tried watching it and fell asleep at Nick's (njf4i) place once cuz it was so damn exciting. There weren't enough crashes till Stewart decided to act like the dick that he is, and if it wasn't for him that series would never be interesting.

I'll stick to MotoGP.

Hey Retom, great post!

Time & time again you guys bash NASCAR, but for some reason your reading the headlines, attempting to twist something you know nothing about & figure out a way to pop off. Its not one of those sports you just watch and understand, you need to learn the sport. It would probably be a little more interesting if you actually knew what you were looking at, as oppose to just seeing cars go around in a circle.

Race fans are race fans & racing is racing, anyway you can get it!

Now go ahead, tear me a new one...the rest of the thread is yours.

Racing? Yep, a Homo Depot or Viagra billboard going around with very little passing is racing. Making everything the same is racing? At least in MOTOGP, they have the rules and say go at it. 3-4-5 cyl bikes, all diff shapes etc. Take the paint off nascrap cars and they look like.......? Parity, yep, all front drive mostly V6 cars running rear drive and V8s. Thats STOCK car racing at its best. Even the name is a MISnomer.

I'll admit that NASCAR isn't necessarily the most exciting form of racing to all, but a lot goes on. Passing is huge, but it's not always for the lead.

Nascar is just on a different scale than something like F1. Look at F1, they pretty much take turns having one dominant team, and the rest battle it out for spots nobody cares about. Ferrari for many of those years (including a few recent years) were consistantly finishing 1st and 2nd, having time to slow down and do factory photo finishes like they do sometimes in LeMans. Nascar set up the guidelines to have the most competitive form of racing imaginable... of course, close racing is probably geared more towards increased crash #'s and hotter tempers, which fans love. It's a love it or leave it form of racing though. You still run into larger $$ teams leading the races and smaller teams kind of getting the shove, but with the installation of the new cars (switching partway through this season and then starting in full with the 2008 Daytona 500 (they don't want to ruin the biggest event of the year if the cars need more work), teams will require less cars which mean small teams will be more competitive.

Motorcycle racing is a completely different breed of racing. With so many more variables and more unpredictable machinery and rider differences, the races all take on a unique character.

Final point here though is that any race series has a dominant force and that's not always the most exciting thing for fans. American LeMans has Championship Audi in the prototype class, Chevy in the GP1 or whatever it is, etc. Speed GT used to have Champion Audi running the RS6's, but they left and Team Cadillac came in with big budgets and multiple cars. Even MotoGP has a few top runners who consistantly lead or win races, and it's not always just because the rider was dominant, but how well the big budget team's machines run compared to the small budget teams. F1 you'll notice the same thing which is why certain teams stopped trying.
