Welcome aboard, don't be too quick to leave protective gear behind, even in hot weather. I learned the hard way many years ago and with lots of scars to prove it.
Along with your helmet, at least wear a quality textile armored jacket, good boots and good gloves. Its not as hot as leather, but sweat is definitely cooler than blood. Road rash sucks.

Don't ream the kid for not wearing gear, it's his choice. It doesn't mean he's a bad rider it just means he's not smart enough to protect whats important!!
Indirectly that means he's a bad rider
BOO THIS MAN, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Just kidding. I'd stay with riding geared up, it hurts too bad when you fall to not have it

Welcome to the boards. I was thinking about buying something that far south (I'm in Central Jersey right now), 'cause that was the only area I could afford a house, but I couldn't deal with the 2.5 hour work commute!
I can see there are wonderful bike roads down there though!
Enjoy and be safe!
