CRG Lever Safety Recall
Customer/Dealer/Distributor Q&A
Rev. May 10, 2006
Q1: What levers are affected?
• CRG RB-511 and RB-512, Roll-A-Click adjustable brake levers.
Q2: What motorcycles were these levers made for?
• Model RB-511 is designed for use on 2004 thru 2006 Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycles,
and 2005 thru 2006 Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycles.
• Model RB-512 is designed for use on 2003 thru 2006 Ducati 749 and 999
motorcycles, and on 2004 thru 2006 Aprilla Mille R motorcycles.
Q3: Why are these levers being recalled?
• A metal rocker that is positioned between the lever and the master cylinder may,
if significantly misaligned,, become seized in the brake engaged position thereby
preventing the front brakes from disengaging and potentially resulting in a
vehicle crash.
Q4: Is this a recall or a notification?
• CRG is conducting this voluntary recall in cooperation with NHTSA.
Q5: Are other models affected?
• No. Unless you have a CRG RB-511 and RB-512, Roll-A-Click adjustable levers,
your CRG levers are not affected and you’re able to continue using them just as
ever.
Q6: Are associated clutch levers affected?
• No, only the front brake lever models RB-511 and RB-512 are affected by this
Safety Recall.
Q7: How do I know if a specific lever is OK?
• We are asking that the rocker assembly on all front brake lever models RB-511
and RB-512 be replaced with RB-516 (for RB-511) or RB 516 (for RB-512) .
• CRG will send replacement rockers to the shop where the lever was purchased,
or, if it is not feasible to have that dealer conduct the conversion, parts will be
sent directly to the customer.
• The replacement parts should always be installed by a CRG dealer or other
certified mechanic or qualified technician.
Q8: What’s the nature of the issue?
• The subject equipment has a metal rocker that is attached to the end of the
lever.
• The rocker has a pivot bore, which interfaces with the motorcycle’s master
cylinder.
• The pivot bore contains two elements -- a reamed hole in the rocker, and a press
fit composite bushing.
• If the pivot bore is significantly out of line, the brake lever could potentially
become seized in the brake engaged position, thereby preventing the front
brakes from disengaging and potentially resulting in a vehicle crash.
Q9: Has anyone been injured?
• No. Not to our knowledge.
Q10: How many levers are affected?
• In an abundance of caution, we are recalling all 1,611 front brake levers in
question, although we estimate that the total levers that could be defective to
be fewer than 10 percent of the total.
Q11: What do I do if a lever does need to be replaced?
• Even if there are not signs of the potential issue with a lever, we are requesting
that the rocker assembly on every RB-511 and RB-512, Roll-A-Click adjustable front
lever in the field be replaced.
• See the answer to Q7 above for how to go getting rockers replaced.
Q12: Who should do the work?
• The replacement parts should always be installed by a CRG dealer or other
certified mechanic or qualified technician.
Q13: How long will I be off my bike?
• The actual rocker replacement should take only a few minutes.
• However, your local dealer may have a backlog of repairs, so you may wish to
schedule a service date and time in advance.
Q14: Will I need to pay the dealer for the service?
• No. CRG will provide parts free of charge.
• Further, CRG will compensate the dealer for the time required to replace the
rocker upon receipt of the defective part and completed paperwork.
• Under no circumstance should a consumer be charged.
Q15: Can I replace it myself?
• No. The replacement parts should always be installed by a CRG dealer or other
certified mechanic or qualified technician.
Q16: Can I have a refund?
• Yes, if you want, return your entire lever to CRG along with a copy of the original
sales receipt and we will send you a check in roughly six to eight weeks.

Thanks for the heads up Joe, I have CRG levers on my TLR and my RC51. I like them, but Pazo makes the same lever for about $40 less. I am happy with the quality of the CRG's so far and with the recall, they are apparently looking to do the right thing with a defective item.
