There's no doubt he's very talented, however he's always been an overqualifed rider placing seconds ahead of everyone else, bored out of his lid, that never had the stones to step out of his comfort zone and apply those skills to MotoGP, it's very easy remaining a big fish in a small pond.

He could still ride the wheels off the bike. There was no one better at playing head games with riders then him. He had the field beat before they arrived at the track, which is really hard to do. Rossi does the same thing, just with a smile. Mat rarely smiled.
