Default Track da 1K or get track bike

I'm up in the air about this. Since i did some more track days. Been thinking of tracking my 1K, selling it to get just a track bike, or save for another track bike. Need some help on this one . This will take place next season.

The 1K is too much for the track...at least for me it is.

Some advise/thoughts

Seems like you already realize the 1K is a lil to much for ya on the track. Now its just doing what you gotta do to get a 6. Next time we're at the same track day take the sv out for a session...you'll want to get one

I track my R1 quite a bit. I say go for it. Make sure your right hand does not get out of control. Look on ebay, wera, etc to find a set of used race glass if you're worried about damage to your plastics.

Get a 600....you will learn and more than likely go faster on it than you will on the 1000.

Jase, whatever you do don't get rid of that gix, you still like riding on the street...good luck on your search for a track 600. Let me know if you have problems finding one, I know a guy that rebuilds salvaged bikes for track guys, the bikes are cheaper and they run just as well.

If you can afford it, keep the 1K for the street and get a trackbike.
Or sell the 1K, and get a cheaper bike for the street and a trackbike

You can probably find a good 600 clAss track bike on the WERA forums or the sale section of TPM and other sites. If I get another bike I will be looking towards a 600 for the tighter courses and keep my TLR for the long ones.

You can take a 1000 on the track, except your learning curve will be a lot steeper. Additionally the bike is very unforgiving, espicially on street compound track tires. One mistake with the throttle and you can pretend you're superman for a few seconds before impact.

As a new rider on the track you should be focused on smoothness, lines, and consistency. Throttle management is another unnessary thing at that stage to take up too much of your attention. Nail down the basics first, fine tune your riding mechanics, then return to a 1000 where you can exploit most of the advantages it will offer to you.
