I dont think we met at the track, but I was polite enough to honk as we passed you going home (I think we were on I81 at that point).

I do remember a group of three trucks going by. One with an enclosed trailer, one with an open trailer and another one with bikes in the bed. My buddy was driving and I was trying to sleep so thanks for waking me up (joke). He was driving and if I remember it was on 29 because we spent the night in Staunton which is as soon as you hit 81 off of 64.

How many of you take the 81 route to VIR?

We run 95 the 295 (just north of Richmond) to 64 to 288 to 360 to 58. The 295-64-288 bypasses the Powhite parkway tolls.

Others I know take 95 to 495 (around DC) then 29 down to Danville.

Just curious, we've done this trip so many times now that I'm looking for new ways there.

we often bicker about which way to go. I won this time and we were taking 95....one argument against is the DC traffic. I hate 81/78 ...too much construction and too many local road workers with itchy "shut er down" fingers. We parked one time in the slow lane and had a barbecue on 81, and after we finally got moving again we saw nothing. not a flair, not a peice of broken glass nothing. After parking on a highway for 1 hour you expect...if not hope...to see an overturned truckload of chickens scurrying about the highway.

so on the way down we called someone who was going to summit to race. He was over 5 hours into his 3 hour trip, with a few more to go.

we left morristown at 12 pm on Saturday and got to VIR at 8 pm.

little extra tolls....95 is the way to go. they can keep 81, ive parked on it all i can take.

95-495-66-29 has never failed me. I allways hear horror stories of 81 getting shut down, or tons of traffic on 95 south of DC. I didnt hit any traffic coming or going this year.

I've never hit traffic or construction on I81... 78 on the other hand, it happens quite a bit...

95 on the other hand.... I lived in VA for almost a year and came back to NJ almost every weekend (gf was still in NJ) and had problems on 95 all the time.. That was 15 years ago tho...

Just a little traffic south of DC, maybe 45 minute total delay. Not bad for a holiday. I'm not surprised about the traffic on Friday night. I remember sitting in that traffic back when TPM did 3 days at VIR.
