ZX14 has the Busa beat all around
I just read the reviews from Cycle World mag and we all knew the 14's faster to redline in top gear, but much to my surprise the 14 was not only faster than the Busa, but out performed it in the twisties as well with it's dialed in stock suspension, and it's still comfortable enough to be considered for long easy touring days.
The torque/fuel management system's spot on, and above all the chassis setup is awesome. It's new top-beam mounted design may start a trend for literbikes and 600's alike in reducing the overall width, and it's inexpensive to reproduce on other models.
The 14 seems to be picking up where the 12 left off, at least until the bitterly outdated Busa's new model is released soon.
Pick up a copy and read for yourself if you're interested, there's too much text to list here, performance wise, Kawi really did a great job on this beast.

True, but in the lower gears the busa is still stronger. They've reduced the amount of power the 13.5 puts down in the lower gears to "help" the rider.

I'll admit that the 2006, kaw 13.5 may be able to take the crown from the busa, which dates back to circa 1999 but just barely... Remeber when the busa took it from the kaw 11d now that was a slam!
It'll still be prob a year or two before the kaw 13.5 can really talk junk. The aftermarket is way to supportive of the busa and is still trying to pick up the pace on the kawi.
IMO

Yes the 14 was designed to be a top monster literbike contender that's still rider friendly for the average guy.

Yeah the "bi-plane" as some called it was great in it's day but no match for the new Busa at the time.

Muzzy's wasting no time in getting things started for the 14, once that happens all bets are off, but the info provided in the article was regarding stock vs. stock only.

Commuta has a very valid point. The Busa has aftermarket support, also concidering that the Busa is 7 years old with out any major modifications speaks volumes about it. Kawi had to completely redo their bike to beable to beat the Busa and it still doesn't completely dominate it. The kawi is a newer bike its supposed to be better. Thats just like when they came out with the ZX10 everyone was on Kawi's dick because it was supposed to be so fast. I don't get into the magazine crap, I'd rather ride a bike and judge for myself.

Remember the chassis over the engine makes for a TALL bike. Narrow is good for top speed but tall is not good for anything else. Give anything more displacement and it will go faster.

Ever notice Kawi always has to up a few cc's than their competition, 636 vs. 600's...and a 1400 to the Busa's 1300, bah. Guess they had to do something to make up for the weight.

hey man, i dont even think they needed the 13.5, my zx12r housed the busa out of the box in 2000 with no mods, i got plenty of articles to prove it and plenty of people seein tailights on the road to back it up, now its got alomst 50k miles on it so it is gettin a little tired but i havnt heard of a busa yet that has gone over the 30k mark without a rebuild, even my buddy just did his at 30k, total engine rebuild on the busa.........screw that, i got power and reliability and it only cost me about 400 bucks to tune the chassis and have the suspension rebuilt with all racetech components to match my weight and now it also handles like a dream......absolutely love it had for 5 years and through 1 crash and a totaled out stolen recovery, ill never part with it, its like a family member now

like so many other things it comes down to riders as far as who gets waxed
as far as durability... look at my name... I put 40k on my busa in it's first year... the only problem I had was buying so much oil n filters every other weekend for oil changes and tires.
my first break down was because the ount for the tip-over safety switch broke off!
I'll admit that neither the busa nor the 13.5 win in a beauty contest. it took me two years to get passed the fat ass and and smoosh face... it's function over form... like sex... just because she's not the best lookin' doesn't mean she can't make you see stars!

Both bikes are butt ugly. I prefer my Halfabusa (SV650).
