I used to do sitdowns forever, then about 3 years ago I started doing standups until I broke the footpegs off of my 2002 R1. Then I stopped doing them, until about 1 year ago. Sitdowns are the easiest to get used to getting the front wheel off of the ground. For me, I get more control out of standups. If you really want to work on this, find a friend with a video camera and have him film you as you try to wheelie. The hardest part is the relationship between how far the wheel is off the ground and how far you think the wheel is off of the ground. Narrow that gap and you're on your way...

Besides, if you screw up and flip it... you will at least have some nice crash footage...
