Clean those forks.!!!

On my way back from Beaver I noticed oil on my rim. I said awww shit what the hell is this! First I thought brake fluid, everything is okay then i noticed my forks seals were bad, by looking. Took the bike off the trailer and it was all wobbly.

I thought I strapped the bike to tight, but after I dropped it off to Ron at WCW he showed me "RECORD GROOVES" on the fork sleeves that comes from dirt, sand, mainly from the straights ETC that causes the seals to rip and leave those grooves on the sleeves and being it rained on that last day at Beaver (Sunday) it probably got worse.

save yourself a few hundred dollars, stress and get in a few extra track days with that money. because $700 to $800 to redo them isnt cheap!

So clean off those sleeves or the entire forks for that matter after every track day and street riding

i know they sell foam covers for dirtbikes, wonder if they can be applied to streetbikes. probably only need one and cut it in half. but then our bikes will look like they have 80's legwarmers on. that might be acceptable for some of these guys though.

Yes, I agree with cleaning the seals but fork seals and wipers are typically $20 each.
Who is charging $700-800 to install? It's a 1-2 hour job with the right tools.

If the sliders are badly grooved they need to be replaced. Not as cheap as seals!

Rebuild them whether they look like they need it or not. I dumped the oil and fresh seals and wipers at 10K miles, new OEM shock too.

They are actually neoprene called seal savers.

I don't know what they are called now, back in the day they were called fork boots. I had pink ones on my kx80 when I started riding :)

That company that make the helmet base curtains made them. I had them for years, worked well on my F2. I think it was Noj. Dunno if they r still around.

Ron at WCW is doing them for me. NOT completely stock though. But he did mention something about covers for $19.00 or so. I will definately be putting them on and still clean them off!

Yea changing them out is good practice, should be done annually I believe?
