I'm all Alone, there's no one here beside me!!
I feel all alone being the only one here that i know of who rides a '91 Nightkhawk. if any one out there rides a bike similar to mine as an everyday commuter and joy rider...speak out... :cries:
|
Sorry dude, back in the day I considered that bike and bought a 91 F2. When I sold it 50K+ later I never regretted it. I did get a chance to demo a cb750 later and thought it wasn't bad, but it wasnt me.
|
I rode a 250 Nighthawk for a weekend once.....MSF :)

Well I can still say that I rode a '92 for many years. Picking it up in '96 with 850 miles on it, converting it to a cafe' racer and ending it with about 37K. Is your bike stock? |
yeah its all stock with the baffels cut out. i kinda plan on chopping it out a little. custom straight pipes. i got lots of pics if you want to see it!
|
I heard that bike with open pipes on it.....EwWwWwWwWw. It just dosen't have the cam overlap to make it sound good. It needs baffles.

well with the stock pipes with baffles cut out, it sound nice i just want more volume. Kinda the HD sound if you will. i know its not a V-twin but i like to loudness.
|
Those baffles seemd to have a lot of restriction when I removed the heavy 4-into-2 stock exhaust, and there's a good chance your carbs are running lean due to the work you did on the baffles, better synch them if you haven't done so yet to save the motor.
Also I'm not sure how hard you ride that bike but if you're looking for rubber with much better performance than the stock ones pick up Dunlop D205ZR's, 110-80-18 & 140-80-17, they stick like glue in the twisties. Avon also has a matching set and perform just as good if not better than the Dunlops but I didn't get the chance to run them. If you want to get a bit more performance out of the motor install either a stage 1 or stage 3 jet kit with the K&N, as well as a K&N crank case breather, it'll give you a nice throttle response with your new custom pipes. What kind of oil are you running? |
full synthetic. iwent into one corner the way i did on the F4 and literally slid to the out side. had to cut it hard and kill the throttle to keep from going over the edge. so i will look into those dunlops. i just need sticky with longevity. the 'hawk is all i got and i ride the piss out of it every where... how hard would it be to synch the carbs my self. moneies are tight but i wanna get it done!

Keep an eye on the tire pressure being that bike performs very poorly even if the pressure is off only a few psi. Those stock tires are really only meant for straight line touring, due to their hard compound to keep the mileage rates high they don't stick well towards the edges and could prove dangerous regarding slipage. The Dunlops provide an excellent combo of mileage and performance, I was running them for years. I had my carbs done at a top notch shop and they did an excellent job. If you haven't done that before I would suggest taking it to a shop, you'll save lots of extra money in fuel and engine maintenance in the long run. At this point you really shouldn't run the bike till you get that done or you could be causing heat damage to the internals. |
yeah the heat was what bothers me the most. especially in traffic. so is that a premixed oil blend? and as soon as i can get the bike tuned up i will!!!

You are not alone. I'm riding and FZ1 and commute as often as I can. There is nothing wrong in riding and Old man's sport bike. I have fun on the twisties and am happy to be out there.! :boogie:
|
I've got an '85 nighthawk! shaft drive baby!
|
I got an 86 Yamaha SRX600. Haven't ridden it too much lately. Kinda of a little project right now.
|
I have 2 V65 Magnas one 83 and one 84 that I use for all my long hauling and cruising back and forth to work and until Honda makes a real power cruiser that is all I will ride on vacation and communting,as much as I like my 929 no place for the Tbag and gear for a 10 day trip.

I said POWER cruiser not cruiser, sorry but ran across too many with my Magna and at only 600 lbs that 21 year bike chews those things up,they don't handle as well and vibrate too much so I guess I should say a real V4 power cruiser.

post pics foo...ron yours was pretty

Yeah, probably dating myself there, but the V Twins just don't cut it for power and handling for me,why I still have 2 magnas and a VF1000R. As nice as the new ceptors are for the price I would pick a CBR and stick to the dinosaurs i have for touring although the ST is pretty dang impressive.

I've got an 04 FZ6... next year I'll decide if I want an FZ1, sell the FZ6, and buy another 600 for screwing around, or what. Regardless, I'd never give up my upright seating position for those long rides :D
|
I would recommend the fz1. Aside from a little more weight wich to me is both good and bad, long rides are one of its strong suits.
|
Oh I def want the FZ1, I just havent decided the rest yet ;)
